5 Tips to Improve Website Visibility for Better Google Ranking

Most people who start building their first website believe that as soon as their website goes online, there will be a flood of people who will visit it and bring new business to them. In fact, it does not happen like this. A new website is like a shop in a vast desert. There is no default website that anyone can see. All our Search Engine Optimization efforts have only one goal and that is to increase website visibility. So this is the core of SEO. However, first, we need to understand what website visibility is. Even before we talk about how visible a website is to search engines, we should note how people interact with search engines. They type some keywords in the search box and the search engine displays a results page called a Search Engine Results Page (SERP). Domains that are displayed higher in the SERP are more visible than those below. It shows a relationship between website visibility and keywords. Now we can explain it.

What is Website Visibility

Website visibility is calculated in percentage AND with reference to certain keywords. There is no such thing as absolute visibility. Whenever we say visibility it means visibility for a “set of keywords”. So, for example if we target 100 keywords, our domain visibility will be based on 100 keywords. If our website has a visibility score of 10%, it means there is a 10% chance of being there click on our website when the person types in one of the target keywords. SEO tools that speak in a visual score like SEMrush or SEO Profiler, ask you to enter the keywords for which you want to know your visibility. The choice of keywords is therefore important for the website visibility score you get. If you don’t choose keywords that are less competitive and less valuable to your business, you can get a higher visibility score. However, this higher visibility score is not very fruitful for the business. Now I assume that you have chosen useful keywords after a proper research and your visibility score is completely valid then it is time to talk about how we can improve visibility. Here are five actionable strategies:

1. Remove Errors and Mistakes from Your Website

This activity is also called “technical SEO”. Search engine hate websites with errors like broken links. The first thing you need to do is remove all the errors. You can find errors by using tools like Screaming Frog or deep crawling. Not only errors but slow websites will not get good ranking in Google. GTmetrix a free tool that not only tells you the speed of your site but also suggests how you can improve it. Use this tool and act accordingly. Also, not following Google’s guidelines is a big mistake. Some people argue that Google is not a law. That is correct but since you are relying on Google to get traffic, you must follow their SEO guidelines or you will be penalized.

2. Place High-Value Contents

If you want to please the search engines, then make your website readers satisfied with some valuable and well-reviewed content. Since in order to rank higher in Google, you are competing with many others in your niche, you need to beat them with the depth and value of your content. Don’t just re-phrase content from other websites. Create your content and publish regularly. Think of content as the blood of your website. When writing content, focus on your audience. But for this, you need to do some hard work. Do the following:

i. Think about your target customers. Who are they and what are their problems and issues. Most website owners have a vague concept of their clients. They think of only a few people who are interested in their products. You need to clearly and precisely define your target clients and establish a “customer persona” for your business. Only then can you target them with your campaigns.

ii. Go to Yahoo Answers, Quora and other similar websites and try to find out what questions people in your niche are asking. These are their pain points and you need to address the answers to these issues in your content.

iii. Now is the time to do some keyword research. First you need to write down your goals and business objectives. Then find some useful keywords using not only Google Keyword Planner but other tools. If you can’t afford a paid subscription, there are plenty out there for free. This topic has been discussed elsewhere and also on my YouTube channel, so I’ll leave it there. After you find the keywords, you need to sort them into groups and create a keyword map of your website. Now it’s time to write some content.

iv. Before you start writing with the tool called Buzzsumo to get an idea of ​​which titles are getting backlinks and social shares. Create your title and get some ideas for subheadings.

3. Link Building

Try to understand what link building is and how it differs from spamming. A backlink is a link pointing to your website from another site. You don’t need thousands of backlinks because many people are trying to promote. You only need a few but high quality backlinks. The most important thing about backlinks is relevance. These links should be from relevant websites. Now the point to note here is that the relevant websites are most of your competitors. However, if you try, you will find some related websites that are not your competitors. Don’t just focus on websites with very high domain authority. If you don’t know what domain authority is, use both of your free daily searches Moz website and find out the domain authority and page authority of any internet site. Make no mistake, link building is a slow process and increasing your website’s visibility is a long term commitment. So, just keep moving forward, slow and steady, little by little. Also, try to get links to your content as mentioned above.

4. Social Media Engagement

Everyone knows that social media is important to get your website seen. However, there are some critical points that you should consider and I will try to put a brief mention of them here in this post. This is because each of them needs more explanation and I will cover them in my future posts. Some of the important points are as follows:

i. For continuous visibility and traffic to your website, you need constant engagement with your audience and not just occasional interactions. For this you first need to know what types of content are required for that. Also, there are some Google analytics engagement metrics that you should understand and monitor. Videos are also great for engagement. If you’re camera shy, no problem! Just screen capture videos are enough for engagement. These three points and others will be discussed in a separate post with an explanation of these three.

ii. If you find social media too much, use tools like coschedule or hootsuite.

iii. Last but not least is to try to find the “hottest” social media and focus on that. People get a lot of views, traffic and money from Facebook and LinkedIn in good times. However, right now, in my opinion these two are dead dogs for small businesses until you pay them a lot of money. However, advertising on Facebook is still cheap and if you know how to create a good custom or audience lookup for Facebook ads you can try that and tweak it until you get results.

5. Promote Your Business Website Locally and through online media.

There are still many people who prefer the paper format. There are many local magazines with large circulation and advertising that can be done on a budget or even for free. You can talk to your council or local clubs and you can get free advertisement or at a nominal price.
