FORTHSKY Padrigao has decided to leave Ateneo, days after being ruled ineligible for the UAAP Season 86 basketball season set later this year.

In an Instagram post on Monday, the former Blue Eagle cited ‘irreparable circumstances’ which could no longer enable him to return to action for the Katipunan side.

“I’ve kept my silence because my team needed to focus on the games, but I can’t understand how malicious the stories have become since we won, and now I have to answer even for errors I didn’t commit,” Padrigao said.

“Even if I want to represent my university as an athlete, I can’t anymore.”

With a championship and two finals appearances for Ateneo under his belt, the 21-year-old was axed from the roster as he was “unable to meet Ateneo’s academic requirements […] and therefore he is not eligible to play in the upcoming UAAP Season 86.”

The university underscored Padrigao’s “time off” from the team as a reparative course of action for him to work on his scholastic standing.

But in light of various controversies surrounding Padrigao in his first two seasons with Ateneo, the Zamboanga native said he has now opted to leave the Blue Eagles’ nest for good.

“After everything that has happened, I feel that I can’t go back anymore and I have to say farewell,” he stressed.

“Over the course of my stay in Ateneo, I made both right and wrong decisions. The past several months have been very difficult, and I fully acknowledge that this is because of mistakes that I made before when I was still in high school, which haunt me to this day,” he added.

And as he closes an ill-fated chapter of his young career, Padrigao ended his farewell note with profound apologies and accountability.

“I am making this decision because I want to take responsibility for for my past and for my future. There is a lot I have to learn to redeem myself. I hope those I’ve hurt will heal,” he said.

Padrigao said he isn’t sure what the future holds, saying “I don’t know where i will go or whatever options are still in store for me.”
