Tell If Someone is Lying to You

As far as ever, people now have the power to speak up when someone is lying to them. Let’s face it, people lie. But people also give off signals when they’re lying, signals you can pick up on their face, their voice, and their thinking. Listed here are some ways you can use to find out if someone is lying to you.

Tell if someone is lying to you by noticing emotions and interactions

When it comes to emotions, liars try hard to pass it off as real, and it shows (and not in a good way). When a person becomes a liar, he suddenly becomes self-conscious. Because of this, the timing between an action and the corresponding emotion is off, or sometimes the action and the emotion seem to be in conflict. The expression is usually limited to the mouth, such as a smile without creases near the eyes

When a liar is accused, he becomes defensive, unlike an innocent person (“How dare you accuse me of…”). In general, the liar will retreat, bring his body, as if preparing for an attack. He will avoid touching and look away from the accuser. He will probably put something between himself and the accuser (a coffee mug, a screen, window, stairs…etc.)

Tell if someone is lying to you by listening

Liars speak there own language. Most politicians are fluent. When speaking this language, they don’t use contractions and they use your words instead of their own. Do not expect a direct answer, they often express their beliefs on the subject, hoping that it will inspire you, instead of giving a simple answer. The liar hates silence and tries to fill it with words. The tone/volume of their voice may be higher or uneven. The sentences are messed up.

When liars speak, they are looking for reassurance, so listen for the rising tone at the end of the sentence (as if they are asking) and the words “right?”, “huh”, “eh” placed at the end of the statement

Tell if someone is lying to you through profiling

A liar’s primary mission when accused is to plead innocent, not necessarily to convince. Liars don’t give you a third-person account of an event (“And then Steve was like ‘I saw him in the elevator’ ……”). Liars want to show that everything is fine, so they usually leave out the negative aspects of a story while truth tellers usually include all the important events, positive and negative. Liars also forget that an honest person’s exchange of words with himself and the accuser includes questions from both sides of the conversation. Liars defend against questions, but don’t ask anything themselves.
